I’m trying to blog more, and that means posting art on my blog more, too.
I draw a lot. My day job (I’m a storyboard revisionist on Disney Jr.’s Ariel) is drawing. I’m also working on graphic novels in my spare time. I can’t post too much of that stuff, and by the end of the day I’m too tired to draw anything else.
I got through a big deadline though and finally had some breathing room. I wanted to draw but didn’t want to work, so I did this. Drawn and painted in Clip Studio Paint, took about an hour.
I was working on Creaky Acres for seven years, and then rolled off of that and right onto Reel Love, another middle-grade graphic novel. Add in Ariel, and I’ve been drawing sequential art pretty exclusively since 2018. I haven’t done much else! I know my style’s changed, but I haven’t really had a chance to play around with it, like, in a low stakes, no deadlines way. I’ve got so many goals for this year, and one is maybe squeezing in some time to do some drawing just for me.
Anyhoo, as much as I draw because I have to, it’s nice that I still enjoy drawing for fun.
You’re working on mermaids?!?!? 😻
I am! It’s so funny lol. I’ve been working on Disney Junior’s Ariel for two seasons, now! I didn’t expect mermaids to become my entire identity. I feel like I need to lean in even harder. 🤣
